Why do universities still request that official transcripts be sent?
Because official transcripts are printed on watermarked paper, like currency notes (sort of), and because registration files may still be kept in paper format rather than being electronic. There are ways to electronically verify documents, but there are thousands upon thousands of colleges and universities, most of which dont have such capabilities.
