Why do universities want all the transcripts?
Heres how why it is the way it is.. Transcripts provide proof of graduation and performance. It is not sufficient for you to say that you went to X university and got Y degree with Z standing. There is no trust - its nothing personal - all universities demand it of everyone. Transcripts cannot be released by a university unless you authorize them. This is to protect your privacy and to prevent, among other things, identity theft. Lastly, transcripts are not free. It takes time and effort for someone to send that transcript - so you have to pay money for it. That is why they cannot get that info on their own. And here is how the process works Some employer or institution requests your transcript from your alma mater. You contact your alma mater and request that they send a certified copy of your transcript directly to that employer or institution. It proves that you havent altered or tampered with it. For this, you happily pay them whatever fee they charge. Some time later, that institution gets your transcript directly from the sending institution.
