Can I transfer to another university without a transcript?

The most common reason that an university in USA will not release a transcript is because the student owes money. And an unofficial transcript that you printed off will not be acceptable for transfer to another school because it might have been modified. Schools usually require a certified transcript sent directly from the first university to the admissions office. Occasionally a student will show up with a certified transcript with a seal on the envelope, but that is irregular and raises eyebrows. Today, most students use an online service to electronically send their transcript from one school to another. So the bad news is that you need a transcript to transfer. If bad grades are your problem, you will have to sit out a year before you can transfer. The good news is that course credits transfer without grades. In effect, you start with a clean slate in regards to grades. Community colleges are not as picky about admitting transfer students. If your grades are so terrible that you fear that you will not be admitted to another university, talk to the admissions office of a community college. Admission requirements are designed to screen out students who are not capable of doing satisfactory college work. So if you successfully earn a years worth of credits at a community college with decent grades (As & Bs), you will have demonstrated that you can do college work. But even community colleges demand a transcript from previous schools. So if you owe money to the university, you will have to pay your bill before they will release your transcript. Good Luck!
