Do universities in germany accept public notarised transcript?

Your transcipt for application generally needs to be notarized, whether you are German or not. This can be somewhat of a hassle, even for Germans. Some universities accept only some forms of notarization and not others. F.e. incorporated churches are generally siegelfhrend. That means they can also attest to the legality of copies. (Called Beglaubigung in German) Yet some universities reject copies notarized by churches. (Notarization by churches is generally dirt cheap -- my Gemeinde asked for only a symbolic fee -- while contacting a Civil law notary for notarized copies costs you very real money.) In addition to being notarized, a foreign transcript needs to be professionally translated to German. (Or English in some cases -- please ask your University of choice which they accept.) Edit: Notarization needs to be compliant with German law, of course. That means that you need a German institution to do the notarization. Eva Nowack, do you have anything to add?
